This is
one topic in Modern Physics that is easily available to high school
students, because the mathematics involved in analyzing the data is
algebra based and uses the same equations that are taught in Newtonian
Mechanics. Students can investigate without any need for advanced
courses in quantum mechanics, general relativity and astronomy.
Students will use measurements made in nearby galaxies using the
Doppler effect and apply that data to our models of the solar system
and to other galaxies. The question we will look at is how can this
discrepancy be explained, what postulates make sense and which have
already been disproved.
